Adult Ed in Feb. - On Feb 12, 7 19, during Adult Education Time (10:15 – 11:15 am) we will be continuing our conversation about our common spiritual life by talking about church. Mary Sicilia will present a class entitled: “The Church: Why On Earth Are We Here?” There will be lots of time for discussion about the three broad historical models of church: households of faith, the imperial church, and the congregation. Youth are especially encouraged to attend, because we’re excited about a multigenerational conversation about the church!

The G.R.E.A.T. Group will meet in the Parish Hall for a potluck luncheon at noon on Monday the 6th of February. Greg Call, an attorney who specializes in estate planning and elder law will speak. Have you thought about what documents to save, where, and for how long? What should family members know about your finances? When should a power of attorney be assigned? Should checking accounts be shared so bills can be paid? Find out more about these important issues. Come and bring a friend. Keep us GREAT!

Live THEATER - March 2 & 3, 7:00 pm. The NOT READY FOR EASTER PLAYERS Good Shepherd actors, will perform "CHRIST IN THE CONCRETE CITY," a play by Father Philip Turner. We need a prompter, sound & effects, lighting person, publicity hacker, ushers, and a musical overture/soundtrack. We have a spot for only one more actor and someone to put up a www page advertising the play. Rehearsals begin at 7pm: Feb 7, 9, 16, 21, 23.

Adult Ed in Feb. - On Feb. 5, 12, 7 19, during Adult Education Time (10:15 – 11:15 am) we will be continuing our conversation about our common spiritual life by talking about church.

The Living Alone and Laughing A Lot (Most of the Time) Group will meet for lunch on February 12 at 1:30 pm; please note we will meet a half hour later that usual because the late morning church service will be starting at 11:30 am. Are you living alone and looking for a group to dine with once a month, as well as share in interesting activities/concerts/ trips, etc.? Please consider joining us as we begin to make plans for our spring activities. We will meet at Applewood Restaurant (2005 SE 192nd Avenue).

The Brotherhood of the Good Shepherd - Church of the Good Shepherd announces the formation of a Christian men’s group, the Brotherhood of the Good Shepherd, a fellowship where men can discuss male issues of this generation and what it means to be a “Man of God” in a safe and supporting atmosphere. Our first gathering will be March 18 in the Youth Building, 7 to 9:30 PM. We look forward to you joining the Brotherhood!

Saints & Sinners of the Silver Screen returns to Good Shepherd with "The Power of One," a series of films depicting real individuals and their responses to the challenges and abuses of some of the great institutions of our time: media, health care, business corporations, and government. Join us at 6:30 on the specified Sunday evenings in the Youth Building February 12: The Insider shows the contrast between knowing the truth and telling it. Dr. Jeffrey Wigand (a remarkable performance by Russell Crowe) knows the truth about smoking and its links to cancer. When he is challenged by Lowell Bergman (played by Al Pacino) of CBS’ 60 Minutes to speak publically he is conflicted and fearful. And rightfully so.
February 26: The Informant provides a bit of comic relief to the whistle blower role. Matt Damon as Mark Whitacre is full of insider knowledge and willing to share – at least some of it.

The Shrove Tues. Pancake Supper if fast approaching. It will be held on February 21, from 5-7pm in the parish hall. The all-you-can-eat menu includes pancakes and syrup, sausage, apple sauce, juice, coffee, tea and milk. The cost is adults $2, children 6-12 is $1, children under 5 are Free. The maximum cost for any family is $7.

Two Ash Wednesday Services will be offered on Feb. 22. At 10:00 am and 7:00 pm there will be Holy Eucharist and the imposition of Ashes, special music of the season, and a sermon. Childcare will be offered at both services. Begin your Lenten journey and commit yourself to a holy and reflective Lent.

Tax Help for Good Shepherd Parishioners Assistance with your Federal Income Tax preparation will be offered by Ken Voss (14 years experience) and Rick Farr (5 years experience), both members of Good Shepherd. This assistance can come in two different ways: *A question and answer time for anyone with federal income tax questions will be held at church on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 2pm. This session is open to anyone no matter how complicated their return may be. *Individuals with simple returns, who want assistance in preparing their tax returns, can sign up for an individual appointment with Ken or Rick. All appointments will take place at the church and will be confidential. Assistance from a paid tax professional would be necessary for more complicated returns involving things like rental property or a business.
