Youth are children entering grades 6-12. Good Shepherd Youth are encouraged to come as you are. Your beliefs, ethnicity, sexual-orientation, needs, and heritage make our youth group a vibrant, safe place to belong and connect. Whether you come on Wednesday nights, Sunday mornings, or if you are involved in other ministries in the life of the church, you are Good Shepherd Youth.
Sunday Faith Formation
September – May 10:00 – 11:00 AM
Youth (grades 6-12) are encouraged to become active members of a faith formation class on Sunday mornings. Friends are always welcome! We base our faith formation lessons and discussions from the Teen Text curriculum. This curriculum will help youth connect the text on the page with events in their daily lives through discussion led by a series of open-ended, text related questions. It promotes reflection, appreciation of diverse perspectives and real-world application through literature, art, music, science, and current events. Through time Teen Text can help youth see the Bible as a dynamic, relevant resource that can inform them throughout their lives. We’d love to have your youth join us!
Wednesday Night Youth Group
Good Shepherd Youth meets the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month from 7:00-8:30 pm in the youth building.
Ministry happens both when you enter and when you leave Good Shepherd. Central to who we are is what we do. Good Shepherd Youth is involved in many local service opportunities, meeting the needs of our communities.
Summer Mission Trips
From the homeless in Seattle to damaged buildings in El Salvador – Good Shepherd Youth engages God through the world and its people. Each year there is a mission opportunity for all youth who want to serve. Each trip is carefully chosen to respond to meeting the world’s greatest needs and our greatest desires.
Diocesan Youth Conferences: HYC & JYC
Several times each year, youths gather from all around western Washington (our Diocese) to spend time together. High School Youth Conference (HYC: grades 9-12) and Junior High Youth Conference (JYC: grades 6-9) come together from our Diocese to share in music, worship and fun.
School, life, and friendships are hard work. HYC and JYC is a time to step back and connect with other youth who have shared in similar struggles, believe in the same core values, and will encourage you throughout the year. They are a time to join, explore fellowship, and praise.
Additional information and registration forms are available from the Youth Office. Scholarships are always available.
Other Important Ministries
Part of what makes Good Shepherd Youth so meaningful is the connection to rich tradition. Being Episcopalian in the modern world is a wonderful blend of ancient and new. Good Shepherd Youth are involved in a number of meaningful ways:
- Acolytes serve at the altar during the Eucharist doing everything from carrying the cross to helping set the table for communion.
- Music is an important part of worship in our parish and in other youth events in our diocese and in our Columbia Youth Network.
- Lectors read the Bible stories for the congregation during services.
- Greeters/Ushers do what they can to help people feel welcome and comfortable on Sunday mornings. They are often the “face” of Good Shepherd: the smiling face that invites people to come back.
