Children & Youth
Twenty-three percent of the Church of the Good Shepherd congregation is 18 years old or younger. The congregation is deeply committed to supporting its children and their families. Children, youth, and adults meet for Sunday School at 10:15-11:00 AM September through June.

Sunday School for Children ages 3 through the 6th grade. The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is the name of Good Shepherd’s religious education curriculum. Its focus is on a child’s individual spiritual growth. This “hands on” curriculum is rich in Scripture, church history, and liturgy. Children in the 6th grade may opt to attend Junior Sunday School for children in grades 6-8.

Children’s Chapel is offered during the first half of the 9:00 AM and 11:05 AM services. Two age groups are available: preschool-kindergarten and first-sixth grade. Children join their parents in church in time for Holy Communion. The chapel service offers children an opportunity to study the Scripture lessons appointed for the day at their own level of interest. Reflection on the Sunday scriptures may include shared dialogue, crafts, or music opportunities.

Sixth graders may also choose to serve as leaders in Atrium III of our Catechesis program. Junior Sunday School combines learning about God with making friends and experiencing God in each other. This group often turns study into action by doing service projects and group retreats. The curriculum is designed around the interests of the group.
