Senior Ministries

The Seniors at Good Shepherd call themselves the G.R.E.A.T. Group.

GREAT is an acronym for God loving, Resilient, Enthusiastic, Active and Talented, characteristics which are found in our group members.

Our seniors' program is an holistic approach to aging in terms of physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional balance, and continues to be important and vital to our church and members.

In a typical monthly meeting, a potluck lunch is followed by announcements and a speaker from the community or from our church family.

We meet in the Parish hall at noon the first Monday of the month, October through June, and the second Monday in September. In July or August we enjoy an off-campus trip. There may be one or two of these trips at other times as well.

Past excursions have included: Pearson Air Museum; Bob's Red Mill in Clackamas; tour of the Port of Vancouver; trip to the Portland Zoo, Rose Gardens & Japanese Gardens in Washington Park; group tour of the Portland Art Museum; attending local plays & musicals.

The planning committee strives to have activities and speakers related to current events, health, the arts, religous and spiritual topics, the environment, community affairs, history and travel. We try to schedule activites that do not require a lot of physical stamina, and that are relatively inexpensive or free.

We especially encourage all ages to accompany us on group tours, such as the Portland Art Museum; in past tours we have had adults in their 40s and 50s, and once had two teenagers!

All who are interested -- young and old -- in attending any of our activities are welcome!
