Newcomers Ministry

Our greeters are our welcoming committee at the front door  Their job is to offer a warm welcome and to help visitors find their way, if need be, to coat racks, restrooms and coffee, or to help parents and children find the nursery, chapel and Sunday School.  They provide that all-important first impression of Good Shepherd as a church that welcomes all who attend.

Following the services each Sunday, our newcomer visitors take welcome gifts to the homes of those who have filled out a visitor card.  The visitor comes by to say thank you for attending Good Shepherd, but will typically not come inside or linger to get acquainted on this occasion.

Newcomer callers keep in touch by telephone for several months.  Their job is to be “mentors,” to check in with our newcomers to answer questions and make sure that they are receiving all the help they need to become fully integrated into the church community.

“Welcome to Good Shepherd”

Twice a year, we offer newcomers an orientation series called “Welcome to Good Shepherd.”  The five-week series allows new members of the church to meet other members, to become better acquainted with the programs of the church and to ask any questions they may have.  Presentations focus on Good Shepherd’s history, on core beliefs, such a the meaning of Holy Communion, and on the many ways members can become active in the congregation.  Childcare is available, if needed.
