Children’s Ministries Twenty-eight percent of the congregation at Church of the Good Shepherd is 18 years old or younger. The congregation has a long-standing commitment of ministering to young people and their families. The children’s programs at Good Shepherd are varied and appeal to a broad range of children and family’s interests and needs. For more information contact Kara Uhrich, Children’s Ministries Leader at karau@goodshepherdvancouver.org Sunday School The religious curriculum, The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, fosters a child’s spiritual growth through tangible but indirect means. Materials invite children to explore and deepen experiences at their own rhythm. Certificated catechists and their assistants prepare the environment and make presentations that “call forth” the child’s response rather than “pour in” information. The curriculum is rich in resources from the Bible, church history, and liturgy. Sunday school classes are clustered into three groups: preschool-kindergarten, first-third grades, and fourth-sixth grades. Classes meet at 10:15 - 11:00 a.m., September - June. Sixth graders are welcome to attend Atrium III, a class designed for fourth through sixth graders, which uses the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd curriculum, or the Junior Sunday School, open to sixth through eighth graders.Vacation Bible School is a week-long event in early summer for children ages four through the sixth grade. Religious themes, crafts, music, recreation, and more! Questions: contact @ 892-7770 or email Kara
Children's Chapel Children’s chapel services are offered each Sunday at the 9:00 a.m. and 11:05 a.m. services. Chapel I is geared for children in preschool through kindergarten. Chapel II is for children in first through sixth grade. Children meet in the Children’s Education Building at the beginning of the service and join their parents in the church for Holy Communion. The lessons and activities in the chapel services are designed to help children understand the scripture passages that are being read in the church that particular Sunday morning. Nursery Care Qualified caregivers staff the nursery on Sunday mornings from 8:45 a.m.until 12:30 a.m. and for many other church related activities. The nursery is for infant children through three years of age. Adult caregivers are screened through reference checks and a national background check. They also hold current first aid and infant/child CPR certification.Children’s Holy Week Prayer Walk Children learn about the events of Holy Week.
