Adlut Education

Sunday Morning Adult Education

Variety and diversity. Those are hallmarks of the Sunday Morning Adult Education class. It is the largest single education event of the week. It draws the broadest cross section of participants. And, it considers the widest range of topics. Class topics can include support for our faith journey, discussion of the church and its mission in the world, or contemporary events and what the Christian response might be. Classes meet at 10:15 on Sunday mornings during the school year. For more information.

Bible Studies

Tuesday Morning Following the 9:30 a.m. Holy Eucharist, this time of prayers and study provides a safe, caring environment for sharing personal and corporate journeys of faith. It is a time to reflect on life and relationships as they relate to the Bible. Tuesday Morning Bible Study begins at 10:30 am and lasts until noon. We also have a sandwich lunch every third Tuesday.

Men's and Women's Retreats

Retreats offer participants an opportunity to get away, even if only for a few hours, to be quiet and listen to God. One or two men's and women's retreats are scheduled each year. Generally they begin with dinner on Friday and last through Saturday afternoon. Formats vary. Some are mostly quiet. Others feature discussion. Always the purpose is the same to renew and strengthen our faith in Jesus Christ.

Group Life

Studies have shown that small groups (sometimes called covenant groups) are the most important influence in supporting people in their faith in Jesus Christ. Small groups may vary in what they choose to study, but they have certain characteristics in common. They feature prayer, study, sharing and fun. As group members become better acquainted, trust grows and every member finds support for his or her life in Christ. Good Shepherd is a church of small groups. Even ministry teams function as small groups. There are many group opportunities at Good Shepherd. For more information, contact the Church.

Inquirer's Class

What is the Episcopal Church? What do its members believe? What do Episcopalians do to express their faith? These are the kinds of questions that are asked and answered during an Inquirer's Class. Inquirer's Classes are for those seeking a better understanding of the Episcopal Church. Everyone is welcome to attend. Many of those who attend are preparing to be confirmed in the Church. Generally, a series of Inquirer's Classes is offered in preparation for the visit of one of our Bishops. Contact the church for more information.

Education for Ministry

EFM is a four year curriculum that helps lay persons become theologically informed and strengthened in their ability to minister in the parish and the world. It is offered as an extension program through the University of the South, an Episcopal seminary in Sewanee, Tennessee. EFM offers in depth study of the Bible, church history and theology within a small group community of 8-12 students. Groups meet weekly with a trained mentor. In addition to the academic study, sessions provide opportunities for theological reflection, worship and fellowship. Groups meet from September thru June, and students commit to one year at a time. Enrollment is in July and August.
